BIOGRAPHY
Marc Staples is a professional painter, printmaker, and sculptor whose four-decade career is defined by his pioneering use of technology and an obsessive preoccupation with the limitless forms and colors of nature.
In his youth, Staples initially bypassed an engineering scholarship for a career in fine arts, following in the footsteps of his uncle, the acclaimed artist Donald McAdoo. His early technical knowledge, however, became foundational to his artistic innovation. In the 1990s, while working as a painter and printmaker, Staples applied his engineering skills to found one of the earliest digital printmaking facilities: Staples Fine Art, in Richmond, Virginia. The studio trademarked the name “Heritage Giclee” and became a recognized industry pioneer, featured in publications such as Mastering Digital Printing. The studio's global reach eventually included clients in all 50 U.S. states and 15 foreign countries.
His focus shifted in the 2000s when renowned sculptor Joseph Kinnebrew encouraged him to move beyond two-dimensional limitations into metal artwork. Again, progressing quickly due to his engineering chops and his family history in the arts, Staples developed a large and prolific body of work in steel, copper, and mixed media. In 2011, he sold the Heritage Giclee Printmaking Studio to focus entirely on sculpture and fine craft, evolving into the Lago Luna Metal Art Studio which he previously started in 2004.
Now based in rural Buffalo Junction, Virginia, the Lago Luna Studio operates with a powerful mission: To transform lives by integrating art into everyday environments. As Staples proudly states, “We believe that by surrounding ourselves in beauty we have the power to transform the human experience, foster creativity, and promote well-being. Lago Luna is dedicated to creating accessible metal art that elevates the spirit and brings joy to the soul.”
Marc Staples has enjoyed producing work for numerous clients including private corporations, developers, and individuals. In creating site specific sculptures he works along side architects, project managers, and varied groups in different phases of construction. Marc utilizes computer design and imaging programs to assist with technical aspects of projects. This assists him in communicating clearly through the conceptual stage to the coordination of installation.
